Tiny Desk AI photo guide: one person or a whole band?
Choose portraits, assign the lead and band roles, and check identity across every shot before sharing a Tiny Desk AI video.
Updated October 30, 2026
Start with one clear portrait for each person you want to recast, then assign each portrait to a specific role. A scene containing five musicians does not necessarily support five separate identity replacements. Check the selected template before preparing a full cast.
For a solo idea, decide whether you want only the lead replaced or the same person repeated across the band. For a group, write down who should sing, play keys, perform backing vocals and play sax. These are different requests, even when they use the same concert setting.
Which portrait should I choose?
Use a sharp, well-lit photo with one visible face. A front-facing or gentle three-quarter view is easier to compare with the finished video than a distant group shot. Avoid sunglasses, hands across the face, heavy beauty filters and motion blur. If clothing matters to your idea, include the shoulders and upper body.
Use photos you have permission to upload. Our photo picker accepts JPG, PNG and WEBP files up to 10 MB. Converting a blurry photo into a larger file will not restore missing facial detail.
Can I use a group photo instead of individual photos?
Do not assume a generator can identify and assign everyone from a group photo. Separate portraits let you map each identity to a performer. If you crop a group photo, check that the face remains clear and that another person is not still prominent in the crop.
Keep a simple cast list with a name or private label beside each role. Check the arrangement before submitting, especially if two people look similar. A good portrait cannot compensate for assigning it to the wrong performer.
Why can the face change halfway through a video?
A successful opening frame is not proof of a consistent clip. Identity may drift when the camera cuts, a face turns, another musician overlaps it or an instrument covers the mouth. Watch the group shot, lead close-up and sax or keyboard shot separately.
Check the selected person and the people who should remain unchanged. Note the timestamp and role when reporting a problem. This is more useful than saying only that the result looks wrong, and helps distinguish a role-mapping issue from image quality.
What can I prepare on this site now?
You can explore the references and plan your cast. The current creator is a local preview; payment and video generation remain closed while the complete delivery workflow is being verified. Planning several roles is not a guarantee that every role is ready for generation.
